Volunteers 2023-2024:
Below this list is information about applying for, or renewing, Calgary Board of Education volunteer security clearance.
Here are the steps if you have, or wish to renew or apply for Volunteer Clearance. (Parents, guardians, aunts, uncles, grandparents, family friends, care givers...may apply for volunteer clearance and then be qualified to offer to volunteer when opportunities are available. )
Here is the CBE webpage about this process as well - Volunteer Clearance for CBE
You must complete the annual CBE volunteer registration form which is sent home in the Welcome Package. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our schools. You also make a signed declaration with regard to criminal charges.
The applicant must have been living in Canada for one full year.
Step 1- Fill out and return to the school, the Annual volunteer registration form (sent home in Welcome Package) also found using this link
If you have not had volunteer clearance in the last five years then follow the next steps:
Step 2- Bring piece of photo government issued ID into office in order to receive EPIC letter
Step 3- Adult can follow process online or go into a Police station
Step 4- Show the principal the clearance letter once received
Step 5- Enjoy volunteer opportunities in your child's classroom, school, or on a class field trip.
Once the application has been sent for processing, it could take two weeks or more to receive confirmation. Therefore, if you would be able to volunteer for any field trips or other volunteer opportunities with small groups of students, that may occur in the first part of the year, it would be necessary to apply or renew sometime during the first week of school in September.
Volunteer clearance lasts for 5 years from the day of actual clearance. This clearance, applies to volunteering in all Calgary Board of Education schools. Therefore, if you have a child in more than one school, you only need to begin the process at one of the schools and it would apply to all of the schools. If you received clearance when your child was starting kindergarten, it will expire during your child’s grade 5 year. If you receive clearance now, and your child is in grade 4, it will not expire until your child’s grade 9 year.
